Faith Akiteng is an Academic Librarian working at Makerere University as the College Librarian—College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology. She is also one of the current Research4Life (R4L) Country Connectors for Uganda, with major roles including the promotion of R4L resources and capacity building of researchers to optimally use the resources. Through this R4L initiative, she’s contributing to the improvement of the research ecosystem in Uganda by building strategic partnerships, networking and local engagement with key stakeholders, and ultimately bridge the knowledge gaps between the high-income and the low-and-middle-income countries (LMICs) in the global North and global South respectively. She holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Library and Information Science, both obtained at Makerere University. She is currently persuing her doctoral studies at the same university, and is at the final stages of completion.

Faith’s library professional career started in 1998 as Head of Law Section; Head of Periodicals & National E-resources Coordinator; College Librarian—College of Business and Management Sciences and College of Education and External Studies. Faith participated as one of the key project staff that deployed  the library system in 2003; recruited and supervised the Information Processing Assistants that converted the manaual library catalogue into the digital format under the Sida-Makerere University Library Information System (MakLIBIS) in 2006.  She was in-charge of implementing the circulation module of the library system using self-check-in and check-out machines. In 2007, Faith was one of the five staff who participated in writing an award winning project of USD 2.5 million from the Carnegie Corporation of New York that revolutionalised MakLib operations. Her experience in library automation was extended to international levels where she trained library staff of University of Juba on Library automation processes under two South Sudanese projects— Juba University Library Automation Project as well as the EdLib Project. As a former National E-resources Coordinator, she worked closely with international development partners such as the International Network for the Availability of Sciencitfic Publications (INASP) and Electronic information For Libraries (EiFL) to monitor and evaluate usage of E-resources. She also worked with professional Associations like the Consortium of Uganda University Libraries (CUUL) to build members’ research capacity and expertise in Licensing and Negotiation skills, trouble shooting electronic platforms, including Research4Life for all registered institutions for seemless access to e-resources. As an Information Literacy (IL) Trainer passionate about IL pedagogical skills for librarians, she has delivered IL workshops for librarians at national, regional and international levels in partnership with INASP. Faith also worked as an EiFL Country Licensing & Programme Officer, where she marketed E-resources to CUUL member institutions for optimal usage. She has also served in many leadership positions in the Consortium Executive as Treasurer and Publicity Secretary; member of Programmes, Research & Publications & E resources Functional committees.
