Biography

Dr. Lydia Namugera is the current Team Leader of the College of Veterinary Medicine, Animals Resources and Bio-security (CoVAB) of Makerere University. Before her current position, she served as the College Librarian, College of Natural Sciences (CoNAS) since 2014-2018. Dr. Namugera has over 20 years’ experience of working in academic libraries and during this period, she has acquired great skills in leadership.

Dr. Namugera holds a PhD in Information Sciences, Master’s degree in Information Sciences and a Bachelor’s Degree of Library and Information science, all from of Makerere University. Her main interest is in virtual library and information services and has ventured in this field for her PhD research. Her research passion has enabled her to author several publications.  

Dr. Namugera has facilitated various Information Literacy sessions to both staff and students including; browsing the library databases, citation and reference management, scholarly writing as well as counselling and guidance of students among others. She is a member of the Research and Innovations committee of Makerere University Library which is responsible for developing and overseeing the library’s research strategy in alignment with the University research agenda.

Lydia is actively involved in community service through various professional Associations. Currently, she is the Vice Chairperson of the Consortium of Uganda University Libraries (CUUL). She has recently chaired a six-member committee that drafted the Memorandum of Understanding between CUUL and the Uganda Library and Information Science Association (ULIA). She is a member of the CUUL e-Resources Functional Committee in charge of selecting e-resources, negotiations, and training members in access and use of the e-resources. She is also a member of the Research and Publications Committee which is responsible for building the competencies and skills of the librarians from the CUUL member institutions in research and other scholarship endeavors. Dr. Namugera served as a CUUL Publicity Secretary from 2017 to 2018. She also served on ULIA as a committee member from 2008 to 2010 and also moderated CUUL online webinars.
