Systematic Review Support Service (SRSS) at Makerere University Library
Makerere University Library is proud to introduce the Systematic Review Support Service (SRSS) — a new initiative designed to strengthen research excellence and evidence-based decision-making across the university.
Systematic reviews and other forms of evidence synthesis are increasingly essential for advancing high-quality research in health, education, and the social sciences. Yet, conducting them requires specialized skills in literature searching, protocol development, documentation, and the use of advanced tools. To address these needs, the Library has established the SRSS to provide structured support to faculty, researchers, and students undertaking systematic reviews and related methodologies.
The service was developed following a comprehensive needs assessment, which revealed strong demand for systematic review support at the university. With full backing from library management, 17 librarians from across the nine college libraries were trained in systematic review methods, ensuring a broad and sustainable support network. The SRSS is grounded in international best practices, standardized guidelines, and a commitment to continuous improvement through evaluation and feedback.

This service marks a significant step in Makerere University’s transition toward becoming a research-led institution. By supporting the production of impactful, high-quality evidence, the SRSS contributes to the university’s mission of fostering evidence-based practice and advancing knowledge that benefits society.
