National Agricultural Research Organisation and Makerere University, College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (NARO-MAK) are organising yet another Joint Scientific Conference slated for 12-15 November, 2018 in Kampala. This year's conference is anchored on a theme “Research for Innovative Agri-Food Systems and Nutrition”. Sub-Themes: 1. Advances in Agri- entrepreneurship and value chains 2. Innovations in post-harvest, nutrition and food safety management 3. Climate smart agriculture, resilience and the environment 4. Enhancing plant and livestock production systems

Inaugural Prof. Capt. Dr. VL. Ongom Memorial Lecture

Makerere University School of Public Health cordially invites you to the Inaugural Lecture in Memory of Prof. Capt. Dr. VL. Ongom (1933-1980), the first African Director of the Institute of Public Health, Makerere University, 1975-1980 Theme: Bilharzia (Schistosomiasis) & other Neglected Tropical Diseases in Uganda since 1980: Towards Elimination in realization of UGANDA VISION 2040. Guest Speaker: Prof. Birgitte J. Vennervald, University of Copenhagen, Denmark.

Information Competency and Management Training

The Directorate of Research and Graduate Training in collaboration with the Makerere University Library, announces the PhD Crosscutting Training Course: .

Dates: Monday 18th to 29th June 2018

Venue: Multipurpose Computer Lab, Main Library (New Extension 2nd Floor), Makerere University.

Course Content: The content will include:

  • Introduction to the research process, including elements of the research proposal
  • Introduction to bibliographic searches for literature review
  • Sources of information
  • Searching Makerere University Library in-house databases (MakULA, MakIR and AIM)
  • Searching specific databases (E-Library, Sage, OUP, EBSCO, Jstor, HINARI, OARE, AGORA, TEEAL, ARDI, Cochrane, Emerald, Wiley, etc.)
  • Document Delivery Services (DDS)
  • Management of multiple electronic files
  • Professional citing and quotation
  • Reference management using Endnote and Mendely
  • Scholarly writing and communications skills
  • Presentation of research work.

Target audience/Eligibility: PhD students. Max.No: 50 on the basis of first come-first serve.
